The last of the spring's Hedgehogs was released back in the wilderness of Naxos. The female Hedgehog had been found by the side of the road covered in parasites and had a wound on her face. After completing her treatment and regaining her strength she was released in a Wildlife Refuge far from the streets. A few days ago, members and friends of the Naxos Wildlife Protection Association came together to celebrate a very special moment—the return of four wild birds to freedom. A unique Naxian wild animal! 🐇 Seven species of cetaceans reside in Greece. In the Cyclades, two of the most commonly encountered species are the bottlenose dolphin (Tursiops truncatus) and the striped dolphin (Stenella coeruleoalba). Our 2026 Sea Turtle Research Program is now underway, with regular boat surveys and beach patrols helping us better understand and protect the sea turtles of Naxos and the Cyclades. Το ομορφότερο κομμάτι του έργου μας είναι η στιγμή που τα άγρια ζώα που φροντίσαμε επιστρέφουν εκεί όπου ανήκουν: ελεύθερα στην φύση. RICA, the survivor Swimmers at Mikri Vigla alerted us to a “possibly alive” sea turtle floating in the bay. The animal was brought ashore by members of Naxos Wildlife Protection Association, where it was confirmed to be dead. A beautiful young Common Buzzard was lucky amidst her misfortune on Mylopotas Beach on the island of Ios.
